Air Brake Z Endorsement



Course Description

This course is intended to provide information on laws regulations and correct procedures required to drive vehicles equipped with Air Brake Systems, as used on trucks, tractors and buses.

It is mandatory, as the driver of an air-brake equipped vehicle must have a ”Z” endorsement on their licence.

Since March 2002, there has been big change in the “Air Brake Endorsement” course. The 12-hour Air Brake Course now includes theory as well as a practical. This course is presented under the recognized authority of the Ontario Safety League, according to the guide-lines of the Ministry of Transportation, Ontario.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the laws and regulations that apply to operate vehicles with Air Brake Systems
  • Perform an effective pre-trip inspection to ensure proper brake system operation before the unit is put on the road
  • Identify defects in the Air Brake Components
  • Check the Brake Adjustments

Prerequisites: Drivers must hold a valid Ontario’s Driver License with ‘G’ Class

Format Classroom: Interactive workshop with formal instruction, video, discussion and hands-on training on working brake assembly – in-class and on actual vehicle.

Resources: Supplied: Driver’s manual, Brake Adjustment Limit laminated Card and handouts.

Evaluation: Full attendance, class participation, written and practical test for successful completion.

Duration: 12 Hours

Certification: M.T.O. approved Certificate from ONTARIO SAFETY LEAGUE.
